Motherhood: Some Ramblings

I never thought I would enjoy it this much. Being a mother that is. Being a stay-at-home mom and wife now defines who I am. Nine months ago I would have never thought this was possible. I was by definition an ICU nurse. That defined me. I loved it. I loved the adrenaline. The challenges. The emotion of it all. I didn't think anything else could replace it so completely. Motherhood has done that.

I love holding my little girl, having her look up at my face and smile so big. She will be sitting on the floor minding her own business. When I walk into the room, she will notice me and hold her arms up to have me pick her up. This little creature wants me, needs me, can't live without me.
Since Olivia was born I have tried to cherish, remember, and hold onto every instant. I know time passes quickly and soon she will be on to the next stage. Making every moment precious. I don't want to miss out on any of it.

I have so many things I want to teach her, help her explore, enjoy with her. Having a child is like re-living my own childhood. You see the world through their eyes.
It is so fun to see her exploring the world. Everything is new! She has never seen it before.
When God said children are a blessing from Him, He knew what he was talking about. Sure I know there will be stressful times, heart break and a letting go. That comes with life. Every part of it. But for now I am enjoying what I have been given. Relishing every moment.
I can't wait to teach her to cook, read, drive, dress, and decorate. I love watching her with the accountant. She already has him wrapped around her little finger. He is a good daddy. Watching my husband be a good dad is so incredibly sexy! He worries about her more than me. Every little cry he asks "Should we take her to the doctor?"
Parenting is an adventure for us. A treasure we have been entrusted with. My prayer is we invest wisely.

Being a parent changed how I look at the world. It is a sacred duty, but oh so enjoyable!

I can't end this blog post without thanking the person who taught me a lot of what I know or at least to search out what I need to know! (0: Thanks mom for teaching me to be a mom!

  1. Jess I loved being your Mummy too! You were such a precious little girl very much like Olivia in personality. I miss those day so much but God is good to let me relive them a little with my lovely granddaughter. Mum
